Red eye is a general condition that encompasses a range of eye issues resulting in increased redness in the eyes. However, the most common cause of red eye is conjunctivitis. In most cases, the disease will heal without medical attention in 3 to 5 days. Though, some conjunctivitis cases can last as long as a week.
Conjunctivitis is fairly common, but should symptoms persist, patients should seek medical attention as soon as possible. It is unlikely, but conjunctivitis can degrade eye health and cause loss of vision if the issue becomes chronic.
