Our Practices in Central Alberta

Our Story

In 1940, Dr. James Lampard and Dr. Sadie Lampard settled in Red Deer, Alberta, to establish Central Alberta’s oldest optometry practice: The Eye Care Centre.

The Eye Care Centre was built on Lampards’ tireless efforts and erected on the pillars of exceptional service, ongoing patient care, and community involvement. Those foundations were upheld when one of the couple’s five children, Dr. Tom Lampard, joined the practice in 1981. Dr. Roger Rudyk and Dr. Jep Lund were added to the team in 1983 and 1987, respectively, as new offices opened in Rimbey and Rocky Mountain House to connect more Central Albertans to reliable eye care.

In 1999 the Red Deer Eye Centre expanded in size and services, changing locations and welcoming Dr. Kevin Hesterman (2000) and Dr. Scott Stevenson (2005) and Dr. Daryl Berger (2008) as partners. In 2008, Dr. Pamela Syrota joined the Eye Care family as an associate. In 2019, Dr. Andrea Kells joined our team, followed by Dr. Heather Van Haren in 2021. In 2022, we were excited to welcome Dr. Jason Snider and Dr. Katerina Shapka, the newest members of our team.

The Eye Care Centre continues to grow and expand without sacrificing any of the principles that built such strong community ties over 80 years ago. As optometric technology evolves, so does each practice, always improving patient experience to exceed expectations. We are always ready to welcome new friends to The Eye Care Centre at any of our three locations throughout Central Alberta.

Our Mission Statement

“To provide Central Albertans exceptional eye care that you will want to tell your friends and family about.”

We accomplish our mission by treating every person that walks through our door for who they are: an individual patient with unique eye care needs that require a custom approach for total visual wellness. From the time you enter our office, our staff will make you feel welcome like an old friend.

Our commitment to curated eye care solutions begins with diagnostics to support your visual goals and eye health needs. The examination process is personalized for each patient, with an emphasis on education to create a partnership that supports your optimum visual health.

We are also equipped to offer eyewear solutions for everyone in your family that suit your lifestyle, budget, and fashion preferences. We want you to be as excited about your own eye health and vision as we are!
